The AQI provides hourly updates on air pollution levels across the state. It also issues, in conjunction with NSW Health, air quality updates at 4 pm daily for the next day. These are based on current pollution levels and the weather forecast.
Keep up-to-date by signing up to air quality updates emailed to you or sent to your mobile phone via SMS.
How to use the AQI
Use the AQI alerts to plan your outdoor activities to reduce your risk of exposure to air pollution. This is important for people with asthma and other conditions that make them sensitive to air pollution.
The AQI uses a colour coded chart to indicate whether the air quality in a particular area is Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor, Very Poor or Hazardous. A 'fair' or better reading indicates that air quality complies with national guidelines.
