The Non-Road Diesel Retrofit program provides co-funding of 50-90% for the retrofit of particle filters to the engines of non-road diesel plant and equipment, such as tractors, graders, cranes and excavators. It aims to reduce diesel particle pollution and is part of the Office of Environment and Heritage's broader Clean Machine Program.

The financial incentive offered is calculated based on the reduction in particle emissions that can be achieved through the installation of the filter. Factors affecting emissions include the extent of use, age and size of the engine. Machine owners are encouraged to contact the RTA to determine potential contributions available for their machines.

Diesel Particle Filters

Diesel particle filters are exhaust treatment devices that are installed on diesel engines, usually in place of the muffler. While the program covers various types of particle filters, the device that is primarily used is the Particulate Oxidation Catalyst. This device removes over 50 per cent of particulate matter by trapping and oxidizing the particles.

Frequently asked questions

Who is the Non-Road Diesel Retrofit program for?

The Non-Road Diesel Retrofit program targets owners of diesel plant and equipment at least 3 years old and well utilised.

The Non-Road Diesel Retrofit program targets owners of diesel plant and equipment at least 3 years old and well utilised.

What's it about?

The Program aims to reduce diesel exhaust emissions from diesel plant and equipment that do not meet the latest international emission standards. This will reduce local exposure of workers and the community in the vicinity of the machines, as well as the overall diesel particle pollution in NSW.

How does it work?

Diesel plant and equipment will be retrofitted with exhaust treatment devices that reduce harmful diesel particulate emissions by over 50%.
The NSW Government will provide a 50-90% subsidy for the retrofit of qualifying machines until funds are exhausted.
